Our Programs & Services

HIMI delivers comprehensive mental health support through five core programme areas — from public education and stigma reduction to direct psychiatric care through our virtual clinic.

Public Health Education

Our public health education campaign is geared towards educating the general public about mental health and mental illness, dispelling the myths associated with mental illness and those affected by it, thereby reducing the negative impact of stigma.

Community Awareness Campaigns

Organising outreach programmes in communities, schools, markets, and places of worship to educate people about the realities of mental illness.

Myth-Busting Workshops

Interactive sessions to address and dispel traditional beliefs and misconceptions about mental illness.

Media & Digital Outreach

Leveraging radio, TV, social media, and other platforms to spread mental health awareness to a wider audience.

Self-Help Groups

People affected by mental illness are usually isolated because of stigma. They find it difficult to share their unique experiences with others. Self-help groups offer a conducive environment for support and encouragement among people living with mental illness.

Patient Support Groups

Regular meetings where people living with various forms of mental disorders can share experiences, find support, and build community.

Caregivers Support Groups

Dedicated groups for families and caregivers who share the burden of mental illness — providing support, understanding, and reducing guilt.

Peer Mentoring

Connecting people who have made progress in their recovery with those newly diagnosed, offering hope through shared experience.

Advocacy & Policy

Advocacy involves promoting laws and policies that promote mental health and protect the rights of people living with mental illness. We work with policymakers, community leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.

Rights Protection

Campaigning for the recognition and enforcement of the rights of people living with mental illness in Nigeria.

Policy Engagement

Working with government agencies and policymakers to develop and implement mental health-friendly policies and legislation.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Building partnerships with community leaders, religious leaders, private agencies, and other NGOs to create a united front for mental health.

Counselling & Vocational Services

These services facilitate seeking treatment, optimal continuation of treatment, and promote rehabilitation and recovery from mental illness. We help people rebuild their lives and regain their productive roles in society.

Individual Counselling

One-on-one counselling sessions to help patients understand and manage their conditions, and to support treatment adherence.

Vocational Training

Skills development and job training programmes to help people recovering from mental illness regain economic independence.

Rehabilitation Support

Comprehensive rehabilitation programmes that help patients reintegrate into their families and communities.

Virtual Psychiatric Clinic

Our virtual clinic bridges the gap between patients and mental health professionals. With experienced consultant psychiatrists available online, patients can access quality psychiatric care from anywhere in Nigeria.

Online Consultations

Secure video consultations with consultant psychiatrists and professors of psychiatry for diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.

Mental Health Assessments

Comprehensive online mental health evaluations conducted by experienced psychiatric professionals.

Follow-up Care

Regular virtual check-ins to monitor treatment progress, adjust medications, and provide ongoing support.
